and Activities
Legacy of Stars - This group of mature adults
(age 55 and older) meets each Tuesday from 10am to 2pm. They
fellowship while participating in prayer, inspirational reading,
low impact exercises, sewing, quilting, crafts, field trips
and potluck lunches. They sponsor craft fairs and participate
in craft fairs sponsored by other organizations. They take annual
trips and have visited Chattanooga, Tennessee, Little Rock,
Arkansas, and Branson, Missouri. They participate in the political
process by attending the annual state legislative conference
and voicing their opinions about issues that concern seniors.
The Homework Center - The Homework
Center is open Monday through Thursday, from 2:30pm to 6:00pm,
except school holidays/closings. The Homework Center provides
academic support for youth in grades 4 through 12. Students
are given support to enhance their knowledge on subject matters
from reading comprehension to math. The Homework Center volunteers
monitor Homework Hotlines and talk with teachers and guidance
counselors to ensure that they are providing assistance in accordance
with the requirements of the schools and the needs of the students.
Hearts in Harmony - children
ages 5 to 12 years, meet every Saturday from 2-4pm. This program
is designed to instill basic values, cooperation, discipline,
hard work, and goal oriented behavior through seminars, workshops
and music. All children of the community and surrounding areas
are encouraged to participate regardless of religion or church
affiliation. If you would like for your children to be part
of a spiritual and safe, learning environment, please encourage
them to join this organization.
Annual "There’s a Better Way” workshops
- This is a week long series of workshops that are designed
to motivate and enrich citizens in the community. Previous topics
have included Laying a Foundation for a Happy Family, Developing
Effective Parenting Skills for Single Parents, The Value of
Self-discipline and Exercise, Important Traits of Survival and
Success. and many more.
Recreational Programs - The
BCLC provides one of the highest quality athletic programs in
the city of Memphis. Young men and women have the opportunity
to participate in various activities including Basketball (includes
a 5 - 8 year old Developmental League), Volleyball, Baseball
(includes a 5 - 8 year old T-ball League) and Cheerleading.
First STAR (Steps To Academic Readiness) Learning Academy
- Open Monday through Friday from 6:00am until 6:30 pm, First
STAR Learning Academy is a full service childcare and learning
academy that serves families with children from six weeks to
twelve years of age. The Learning Academy provides pre-school,
after school and childcare services. The Learning Academy's
tuition is affordably priced and government vouchers are welcomed.
